CHEZ HAREG BAKERY OPENS A NEW LOCATION

Washington’s All-Natural Bakery Expands Its Retail and Wholesale Business.

A Good Start: A local pastry shop takes the cake on flavor.

The Same home-made taste shoppers were lining up for in the early morning hours at local farmers’ Markets three years ago is now meeting greater demands in the DC metro area.

Chez Hareg Pastries, a DC based small business has been rapidly growing its popularity as a premier bakery specializing in fine European delicacies that are hand-made and baked form scratch with fresh, All-natural ingredients.

Chez Hareg’s passion for freshness, wholeness and phenomenal taste is its hallmark. During its two years in business, Chez Hareg has maintained a relentless commitment to the highest quality standards in fine European style baking practices and principals while managing to produce healthier versions of traditional baked goods and vegan delicacies. Without compromising the rich and decadent taste, Chez Hareg brings unparalleled quality and flavor to its Vegan clients and to all sweet lovers in DC.

Simply put, Chez Hareg set out to revolutionize the way people perceive dessert.

The owner, Hareg Messeret has a culinary degree from Stratford University and is a former Ritz-Carlton pastry chef with over a decade of experience in baking. Throughout her carrier, Hareg has been experimenting and developing recipes that take the “sin” out of dessert while amplifying pure flavors of the ingredients. She pioneered scaled down, healthier versions for popular European delicacies such as her Award-winning Napoleon and Tiramisu cakes and also refined tasty interpretations of a multitude of signature cookies that are not  overly loaded with sugar and butter.

Each cookie is unique and delicious. All made with quality ingredients, they’re perfectly balanced with deep and complex flavors that transcend the sweet tooth The most amazing accomplishment in her endeavor is that she was able to create vegan or simply healthier,

All-natural masterpieces while exceeding critics’ standards in preserving the original flavors that define these popular baked items.

The Sweet Expansion: New Location and Wholesale Distribution.

From a humble start of passing out samples in Bloomingdale, 14th & U and Capitol Hill, Farmers’ Markets, Chez Hareg cookies earned a loyal fan base and media exposure within a very short time.

Shortly after their appearance in local Farmers’ Markets, Chez Hareg cookies were for sale in a tiny shop on 9th St. where the baking operation was in full force in an equally small kitchen.

The positive feedback from regular and new customers alike was consistently growing. It is no surprise that Chez Hareg received multiple awards from the Washingtonian Magazine and the Washington Post as the best bakery in DC.

It was only a matter of time until this recognition by critics and media publications along with the support of customers in the Shaw and U Street neighborhoods as well as her vegan following from the whole metropolitan area translated into booming sales. Word spread and soon, people were lining up for Chez Hareg’s all-natural cookies, cakes and loafs.

Hundreds of test bakes and recipes experiments later Chez Hareg perfected and expanded the Vegan assortment as well as sugar-free selections which are made with Agave nectar.

The continuous media coverage from the Washington Post, Washingtonian, DC North, The In Towner and Eats Magazines as well as several reviews and write-ups on food columns, Chez Hareg was overwhelmed with the increasing retail demand as well as wholesale requests from the most prestigious restaurants, cafes’ and food stores in the DC metro area. Given Chez Hareg’s commitment to freshness, wholeness and home-made- from-scratch principals, it was impossible to simply “bake more” in the tiny establishment. Soon enough, Chez Hareg pastries was determined to move its baking operation to a larger facility to meet the growing local demand.

Two years after opening the small pastry shop in Washington's Shaw neighborhood, Chez Hareg Pastries is widening its reach by supplying its all-natural traditional and vegan baked goods to several cafes, as well as major chain food stores such as Whole Foods, Yes! Organic Market and 7eleven.

The new Chez Hareg Gourmet Bakery located at 2312 4th St. NE Washington, DC 20002 opened its doors on Saturday November 10, 2009 as the largest All-natural bakery retailer and wholesale supplier in the DC metro area specializing in European style traditional and vegan baked goods.
